Awards and nominations

Sean McAllister and his films have received numerous awards and nominations over the years. A regular prizewinner on the festival circuit, Sean’s work has also received some of the industry’s most prestigious awards.

A Syrian Love Story (2015) was nominated for numerous awards including a BAFTA (Best Debut), a BIFA (Best Documentary), and for Documentary Of The year by the Critics Circle. In 2005 The Liberace of Baghdad won the Special Jury Prize (World Documentary) at the Sundance Film Festival, and the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) Award for Best British Documentary. The film was also nominated by The Grierson Trust (Best Documentary On A Contemporary Issue), and by the Directors Guild of America (Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary). On the festival circuit The Liberace Of Baghdad was nominated for ‘Minister of Culture Award for best film and Best Director Award’ at the 7th International Human Rights Watch Documentary Film Festival in Prague.

His first two broadcast films The Minders, and Working For The Enemy both received nominations for Royal Television Society Awards.
